Copenhaver Construction will begin the 3rd and final stage of the decorative crosswalk installation at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Glenview Road this week. This stage will require a complete roadway closure for traffic heading westbound on Glenview Road (west of Waukegan Road) for approximately one week. A detour route will be posted with construction signage. Motorists are recommended to allow for additional travel time in route to their destinations, as traffic delays are expected.

Beginning Monday, May 2nd, weather-permitting, the installation of stamped, colored concrete crosswalks will commence at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Glenview Road. In order to mitigate traffic impacts, the crosswalk construction will be completed in three phases with each stage and related lane closures lasting approximately one week. Necessary detours will be established while this work is underway. In addition, other remaining clean-up items from last year’s Waukegan Road resurfacing project will be underway and wrapped up during the month of May. Copenhaver, the contractor for the Enhancements Projects, has been working hard to finish the curb bump outs and concrete medians. They have about a week’s worth of work remaining on the items directly adjacent to Waukegan Road. Once they finish those items, they will start on the work behind the curb and aprons.

Plote, the contractor for the Resurfacing Project, should be onsite this week making adjustments to the sewer structures that are in the road. They will be starting the removal of the top 2” of road soon. Please allow extra travel time if you’re going to be using Waukegan Road!

The strike was resolved this week and new contracts between the unions and contractors have been signed and are in effect. The contractor resumed work this week!

As of this morning, the strike continues. The Unions and the Contracting Companies are still in negotiations and have not yet reached an agreement. It is our understanding that the next scheduled meeting is set for Monday, July 19.

Thank you for your ongoing patience during the Village construction project adjacent to your home. At this time, the Village has been notified that Chicagoland Construction Labor Unions are going on strike. The conflict is between the Contracting Companies and the Unions, not involving the Village.

Work has therefore been temporarily shut down on your street. We are insuring that all construction sites are safe to the general public and will continue to actively monitor each site.

If any issues arise, or if you should have any questions, please contact the Village Project Manager or the Capital Projects Department at (847) 998-9500.

As of today, we do not have any information on how long this strike could last. We will inform you when this issue is resolved and work will resume.

The contractor continues to remove the median pavement in preparation for the proposed center line medians.

The contractor will be surveying tomorrow, Thursday, with plans to begin pavement removal on Friday and possibly Saturday. The removal for the bump outs and medians will begin on the south side, at Golf, and proceed to Lake Ave.

A pre-construction meeting for Phase 1, the Village portion of the work, was held with the contractor, Copenhaver Construction, on Monday. IDOT has approved work to start, so the contractor’s surveyor will be onsite on Thursday and Friday to layout the center medians and curb bump-outs. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, June 21. One traffic lane may be blocked at times during construction, and traffic may be backed up at times, so please adjust your schedule accordingly.
